Palmerston Regional Hospital is the Northern Territory's first new public hospital in almost 40 years. The $170 million facility is jointly funded by the Australian and Northern Territory Governments and is scheduled to open its doors to patients in mid-2018.
For more information on the Palmerston Regional Hospital and its services, download a copy of the Palmerston Regional Hospital Information Booklet.
Palmerston Regional Hospital will operate as a campus of Royal Darwin Hospital and as part of the integrated network of public health services across the Top End.
Royal Darwin Hospital will support the services delivered at Palmerston Regional Hospital and will remain the Top End’s only tertiary hospital providing major emergency, specialist and critical care services for Territorians.
Lead medical, nursing, allied health and support staff have been involved in planning and designing the best service model for Palmerston Regional Hospital to determine what services can safely be provided when the new hospital opens.
On completion, Palmerston Regional Hospital will be a modern and contemporary health facility, providing a range of specialised health care services, including:
Non-clinical support services are also a key feature of the new hospital and will include:
A hydrotherapy pool will also be built in 2018/19 to deliver comprehensive rehabilitation services on-site.
The building is complete but we now need to make sure the hospital is safe and ready to receive its first patient. This process is called operational commissioning.

More than 450 full-time staff will work at the hospital, which will treat thousands of Top End residents each year.
